Towing the party line can be so taxing; just ask Senator Robert Byrd (D-WV). Normally, it is a good idea to stand on the other side of the room when you see this man, but there are exceptions to every rule. Byrd has taken a hardline stance against the Obama Adminitraion apointing czars to numerous issues.
Simple put, a czar is a White House staffer that is not appointed by the Senate, thus bypassing the normal appointment process. Presidents have used them before, most notable are drug czars. However, they have no constitutional place in the White House and it is considered a huge power grab by Obama. Byrd has also stated this postion in an open letter to the White House.
The true issue here, is that the czars will do as they are told by the President and they only have to answer to him. The czars need to appease the President, not the people, to maintain their positions. This was a bad idea during the 43’s years and it is still a bad idea today. So much for openness and bringing a new culture to the District.
